Disturbing Oprah Shocker

Today on Oprah, MacKenzie Phillips (former star of "One Day At A Time") drops a big bomb...she says she had a sexual relationship with her father, John Phillips of the 60's band the Mama And Papas.

She tells Oprah, "On the eve of my wedding (to Rolling Stones entourage memberJeff Sessler), my father showed up, determined to stop it. I had tons of pills, and dad had tons of everything too. Eventually I passed out on dad's bed. I woke up that night from a blackout to find myself having sex with my own father."
MacKenzie also reveals that her incestuous relationship turned consensual and continued for some time.
Wow. Huge shocker. I knew that John Phillips was a messed up drug addict who got his daughter hooked on drugs, but I had no idea things were that weird, disturbing and disgusting.

I am curious as to why MacKenzie Phillips is revealling this on Oprah. I can understand her wanting to share that kind of info with a phsyciatrist, not a talk show host. Oh, wait a minute...she has a book to sell. Now it all makes sense! Don't get me wrong, what she's been through is horrible, but should these kind of stories be shared on Oprah with the intent to make millions from book sales? What do you think?

MacKenzie Phillip's book is called "High On Arrival" and is in stores now.

She's not just "revealing
She's not just "revealing this on Oprah" as you say in your blog, she reveals it in her book to anyone who wants to read it. I think she appeared on Oprah to bring more attention to her book and her story. Sure it will definately help her to sell more books, but appearing on Oprah will also bring more attention to the issues of drug addiction and incest. Hopefully it will help someone to understand and deal with those issues. I watched the episode and it didn't seem like she was there just to make money, I think she really wanted to share her story in order to help others. In the end, yes it will make her money, and hopfully she won't use it to relapse on drugs.
Disturbed...
I saw the interview yesterday and was shocked and saddened and a little sick after watching it.
I think she was extremely brave to tell her story on the show and hopefully some good will come out of this craziness.
Of course its shocking to hear that someone who sold millions of albums and brought joy to so many peoples lives through his music can do such a evil thing to his own child, lets not forget that she is the victim here, consentual or not, its abuse and I think by her sharing her story someone who has experienced this will find the strength to tell someone, or stop it. And it just goes to show that it doesnt matter how much money you have, or that you have every resource available to you in the world, this kind of abuse is real and it does happen.
I used to think she was a spoiled hollywood brat, I have a new found respect for her and wish her peace and love, and hope she gets better.
OMG. What a horrible thing.
OMG. What a horrible thing. If ms. Phillips recieves any kind of inner peace from appearing on Oprah, isn't it worth it? Perhaps her story will make someone realize that taking drugs can have terrible consequences. So what if she tells her story on Oprah? At best she helps someone with similar problems, at worst she makes a bunch of money. Either way she still has the same issues to deal with. I wish her all the best.
