Lost In Space

NASA astronaut Heide Stefanyshyn-Piper was working outside the International Space Station on Tuesday when she accidentally lost her tool bag.

Stefanyshyn-Piper was mopping up a mess from leaky grease gun when the small bag came loose and drifted into space with its load of vital tools worth hundreds of thousands of bucks.  You can actually see it all unfold on YouTube...

Does this floating tool bag pose a threat to humanity?  Will it fall out of orbit and smash into my car?  Will it hit a nearby communications satellite and knock the Grey Cup off the air (if it does happen, it’ll be in the last quarter when the game is tied and it’s down to a field goal!)?

The astronauts are also hard at work adding a new bathroom, kitchen, two bedrooms, gym equipment and a water recycling system that turns urine and sweat into drinking water.  Ew. Could you drink recycled pee and sweat?  The astronauts don’t mind and even joked that they make “yesterday’s coffee into today’s coffee”.

Experts say it’s actually purer than the H2O we drink on Earth.  The only problem is, say the astronauts, it tastes a bit like iodine.  I’ll take their word for it, because there’s no way I’ll try it!
