Dear Crash and Mars,
I am a newly single mom, I have two children aged 5 and 8 and I have been looking for a different job that pays more than my current one, has great benefits and possibly the room for me to grow and move up the coorperate ladder, in a way.
I don't want you to say my line of work on the air, but I will tell you this, I have a College Diploma and a University Degree, however after I graduated, I got married and had children and was a stay at home mom for a few years.
Now that I'm back pounding the pavement, I'm finding a HUGE connection between getting a second interview and having kids. On several occasions what I thought was a great interview turned sour as soon as I said I had children. At first I thought it was something I had done, or I was under qualified but the more it happened the easier it was to spot. I have kids equal no job.
And this is right here in Regina. I would love to hear if other women have experienced this. Or if women, married or single with kids, feel they are at a disadvatntage against women without kids when looking for work?
Or lets make it really interesting and get some employers on the air to explain. Are there businesses in Regina that perfer to hire women WITHOUT children.
Thanks guys.
Disgruntled Mom
