V-Day Fun

It's crunch time, guys. Valentine's Day is Sunday. For Gods sake, DON't FORGET. I get the "double-whammy"...my wife's birthday is two days before Valentines Day. A few years ago I forgot about both days. I have the scars to prove it!

Here are 5 V-Day fun facts:
1) When St. Valentine was in jail (for crimes of passion I assume), he sent love letters to a girlfriend signed "from your Valentine", which is how the phrase originated.
2) Sadly, one in twelve women buy themselves flowers for Valentine's Day.
3) Valentine's Day is on February 14th because people thought that's when birds and rabbits started their spring mating.
4) Teachers recieve the most Valentine's cards, followed by kids, then moms.
5) More at-home pregnancy tests are sold in the month after Valentine's Day than any other month.
Don't forget Monday is a holiday, so you can be "extra" romantic on Sunday night, if you know what I mean (wink wink nudge nudge)!

Have a great long weekend and Go Team Canada Go!
Should Arnie Carry The Torch?

California Govenor Arnold Schwarzenegger will participate in the Olympic Torch Relay tomorrow. Arnold doesn't have to sweat the results of" peeing in a cup" because the steroids ban at the Olympics does not apply to those who are carrying the Olympic Torch, just the athletes competing.

There is a bit of an uproar over the "Goven-ater's" participation in the relay...after all he's not Canadian. He is, however, good friends with the BC Premiere, who allegedly pulled some strings.

What do you think about it. Is it OK because he's a huge celebrity (literally) and will draw more attention to the 2010 Winter Games...or do you think it's a disgrace and an insult to Canadians because he's not one of us? Thoughts?

Today Michael Buble and Jann Arden will be torch bearers. Tomorrow Walter Gretzky will carry the flame. The big rumour is that he will pass the torch to his son Wayne, who will light the Olympic cauldron. Go Team Canada Go!

Valentine's Day is a rip-off for men!

Valentines day just days away. In my opinion it's a Hallmark holiday aimed at stripping men from their money as they try to romance the women they love. Why do men get ripped off at V-day? We ply our women with chocolates, dinners, jewelry and flowers but what do we get in return? Usually...nothing! It's a total rip off!
Why aren't women rushing out to buy season tickets to the Riders, plasma TV's or blu-ray players for the men they love. Nothing says "I love you" like plasma. On average a guy will spend over twice the amount of money for a V-Day gift than the average woman spends. That means if a guy is lucky enough to recieve a Valentine's Day present, it will probably suck.
Ladies, when it comes to Valentine's Day, do youthink us men get the short end of the stick? Or is should we shut up and accept the fact that this is just the way it is?
"I Love Regina" No More

It's not "I Love Regina" anymore....the city is re-branding to give Regina an identity among other cities. Our new slogan is...."Infinite Horizons".
Hmmmm. I'm not sure I even know what that means. Is it a reference to our optimistic attitude and our determination to accomplish anything we put our minds to or is it a reference the the fact that Regina is located on the prairies and we can see the horizon forever? We live in the city. Our view of the horizon is blocked by buildings.

I kinda liked "I love Regina". Simple and easy. No ambiguity...you know exactly what it means. Maybe we can change the slogan to something with more purpose and meaning like, "Regina...we're awesome" or"Welcome to Regina...at least we're not Winnipeg".
What do you think of the new Regina slogan "infinite horizons"? What do you think our slogan should be?
Super Bowl Commercials

My wife thinks the best part of the Super Bowl are the commercials. She might be right. At an average cost of 2.8 million dollars for 30-seconds of advertisment time, the companies that can afford a Super bowl ad try to get your attenytion with funny, eye-popping commercials. This year's highlights included Megan Fox in a bathtub, the Bud Lite auto-tune guy, Betty White batteling over a Snickers bar and this unusual threesome....

Going to the Olympics? Bring Your Own Snow.

Olympics are one week away and the "snow scramble" continues. Convoys of snow-filled dumptrucks are delivering what Mother Nature can't...snow! The Olympic organizers claim that they will have enough snow for all the snowboard events at Cypress. To be on the safe side they've had helicopters dumping huge buckets of snow on the track. It's been the warmerest January in Vancouver history...the average high of plus 7!

If you are lucky enough to have tickets to any Olympic events, check the back of your ticket...it says "BYOS"...bring your own snow.
By the way, is it wrong that I want one of those skin tight luge body suits just to wear around the house? I apologize for the disturbing visual, but they look sooo comfortable.

Have a great weekend! Cheers!
Making Out is Good for Your Health

This is good news..."making out" is good for your health!
It has been scientifically proven that kissing can actually help melt tension away. When researchers from Lafayette College studied couples who either kissed, held hands, or talked for 15 minutes, they found that the kissers had the lowest blood levels of cortisol, a hormone that contributes to feelings of stress and anxiety.
Additionally, there was a rise in oxytocin--the "cuddle drug" associated with attachment and the sense of calm and security we feel in relationships--in the men. Ladies, this means kissing could lead toa "cuddle session".
So save your relationship and possibly your life...melt the stress the tension and start snoggging now! Preferably with your mate or you may soon be experiencing a different form of stress.
Oscars

Oscar nominees were revealed yesterday. The Academy has nominated 10 (not 5 as in previous years) movies for best picture. A very diverse bunch of movies...Avatar, Up, Up In The Air, Distrct 9, An Education, The Blind Side, The Hurt Locker, Precious, A Serious Man, Inglorious Bastards.

Up vs Inglorious Bastards? Really? It should make for an interesting show on March 7th hosted by Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin.

A lot of people are talking about the "Battle Of The Exes". Canadian James Cameron's film "Avatar" is nominated for Best Picture as is his ex-wife's movie "The Hurt Locker". Looks like the Oscar race is turning into a custody battle.

I'm certainly no movie expert and I've only seen a few of the nominated films but here's my completely unqualified and uneducated Oscar picks (don't bet your retirement savings or children's education funds on this):
Best Movie: Avatar (Duh. No brainer)
Best Director: Jason Reitman (I'm going with a Canadian director who is not James Cameron. Reitman directed the Clooney flick "Up In The Air")
Best Actor: Jeff Bridges (I pick him because I think he's cool. He'll always be the "Big Lebowski" to me.)
Best Actress: Meryl Streep (Hey she's been nominated 16 times, come on!)
Best Supporting Actor: Christopher Ward ("Inglorious Bastards"...he was scarily convincing as a psychopathic Nazi. My boss would have been great in that role)
Best Supporting Actress: Mo'nique (She's won at all the other award shows for "Precious", so why not the Oscars?).

There you go. Take that to the bank. Or not.
Grammy Videos

Grammy Awards were awesome last night. What a show!
Beyonce was the night's big winner with 6 Grammy wins (a new female record), Taylor Swift won 4 awards including "Album Of the Year" and Lady GaGa picked up two trophies. Other winners included Green Day, Kings of Leon, Michael Buble and Jay-Z.

They only gave away 9 actual awards during the show...most of the telecast featured stellar performances from the likes of Bon Jovi, Eminem & Drake, and Pink. Taylor Swift & Stevie Nicks performed together (Taylor was a little pitchy, dawg), and Beyonce (she won 4 awards before the show even started) covered Alanis? How cool is that?
I Loved the Lady GaGa/Elton John duet. Only the Grammies are big enough to put two of the biggest queens in pop on stage together like that.

The Michel Jackson 3-D tribute looked pretty cool but how come we don't get that excited for real life 3-D. Take a look around, EVERYTHING is in HD and 3-D. No goofy glasses required.
Here's some of the big Grammy performance:
I thought it was a great show. Check out more Grammy action by clicking here.
How Do You Spell Fashion Disaster? G-A-G-A

Grammy Awards are Sunday night. Without question, my favourite award show. Look for performances from Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Green Day, Lady GaGa, Bon Jovi, Black Eyed Peas and Pink...plus a 3-D tribute to Michael Jackson. Awesome! Beyonce leads to nominations with 10 nods while Taylor has eight. Who's going to be the big winner? Two words...Taylor Swift.

Another reason to wath the Grammy Awards...the outfirs. Grammy red carpet fashion is always on the cutting edge. Remember J-Lo's infamous green dress?

The most likely fashion offender at this year's show will be Lady GaGa. She's commited several "crimes against fashion" over the last year or so. Let's take a look at some of her greatest hits (or missess depending on how you look at it...):

Hmmm. I think someone is craving attention. I pity the poor red carper reporter who has to ask her, "What are you wearing"? Call the fashion police. Stat.
Enjoy the Grammies and have a great weekend! Cheers!
